Game Shops: Not just bookstores, but shops that make RPGs a strong focus of their inventory.
Dragon's Lair (512)454-2399
Arguably the best-stocked game store in Austin, with a decent
array of independent titles, open to hosting demos and special
events in their back lot. The website has a useful message board
for game announcements and membership drives. Oh, and they have
cats. And comics. (4910 Burnet Rd.)
King's
Hobby (512)836-7388
North Austin's best game store, though it caters more to the models
and railroads crowd than to the LARP/RPG element. Great place
to go for out-of-print titles. (8810 North Lamar Blvd)
Games Unique (512)306-1301 South, (512)219-8707
North
A mall store. Almost "enough said," but Games Unique
has a well-stocked selection of the major games, at least of the
in-print titles--very few indys, though. Modest array of board
games and puzzles. Noteworthy in being the only decent game shop
in South Austin. The Barton Creek Mall branch offers a discount
to NERO players. (North: Lakeline mall. South: Barton Creek Square
Mall.)
HobbyTown USA (512)440-7877 South, ( 512)246-8904
North
A chain store, fairly small and focusing on scientific and philatelistic
persuits. Both locations have a modest gaming section, not well-managed
but occasionally having some out-of-print gems. (4107 S. Capital
of Texas Hwy, 2500 W. Parmer Ln.)
